Flower Power
Party –
This is a great way to settle the kids down and bring
out their creativity – and their final project
doubles as their party favor.
Provide
each child with a ceramic flowerpot and some permanent
paints and let them get busy. You’ll be amazed how creative the kids
will be decorating their own flowerpot.
Once the paints are dried, have a pair of child
sized gardening gloves for the kids to use to fill their
pots with potting soil, a small annual (marigolds, petunias,
etc.) or flower seeds, and a little bit of water.
This
project works outside, but if you must be inside, line
your floors with inexpensive painters drop cloths. You can make art smocks for the kids with large
plastic garbage bags (cut a hole for the arms and head). Need another game? “Pin the Petal on the
Flower”!

by the kids
Cake
- Sunflower Cake – make a single layer cake
with chocolate icing.
Surround it with Twinkies covered in bright
yellow icing.
Luau or Pool
Party – After running around all afternoon at the beach, park,
or your backyard, the kids will need a “Come sit
and cool off activity”. Let them be creative with their own pail and
shovel, frisbee
or megaphone.
Provide
a variety of colorful permanent paints and let them
decorate their own toys. They can paint their names on them so they know
which is theirs after the party.
Once the paint dries, they can get back into
action and play!

Cake
- Make a rectangle sheet cake. Decorate with white icing. Use blue gel icing to make a smaller rectangle
in the center of the cake – a pool. Decorate with gummy bears playing in the
pool or sitting on deck.
